What we collect
The answers you give about the night you want; the venues you view, save, skip, compare and click through to; feedback you submit after a visit; and, if you create one, your account email and display name. If you join a group plan we store the display name you enter and your answers for that plan.
Location
We ask for location only at the moment it changes the answer, and only in the foreground. There is no background tracking. Precise coordinates are used to run the search in front of you and are then discarded; we keep a coarse neighbourhood by default. Precise location history is stored only if you explicitly turn it on in Settings.
How we use it
To rank restaurants against the night you described, to explain why each one fits, and to improve your future matches conservatively. Matching never uses protected personal characteristics. Learning is bounded, visible to you in Settings, and resettable.
Third parties
Place details, hours, ratings and reviews come from a place-data provider and are attributed wherever they appear. We store the provider’s place identifier and our own curated scores; we do not retain the provider’s display content beyond what its terms allow. Optional weather data, when enabled, is fetched for the search area and is not stored against you.
Analytics
We record which parts of the product are used, using a fixed list of events with bounded properties. Precise coordinates, private notes and group invite links are never sent to analytics.
Group plans
An invite link is unguessable and expires. Whoever creates a plan chooses whether participants see individual answers, group totals only, or just the final recommendation. Explanations of a group result are written in aggregate and never name an individual.
The iPhone app
The iPhone app has no account and no server of ours behind it. Your taste answers, saved places and group-night answers are stored only on your phone, and deleting the app deletes them. To find restaurants, the app sends the area you are searching — a neighbourhood centre, or your current location if you allow it for that search — and any cuisine terms to Google Places, and loads venue photos from Google. Google’s privacy policy covers that request. Location is requested only while the app is open, used for the one search, and never stored. The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Calling a venue, opening its website or sharing it happens only when you tap to do so.
Your controls
You can view and edit your defaults, reset what we have learned, export your data as a file, turn off history and precise location, and delete your account and the data it owns. These are all in Settings.
